Hariyama, the Arm Thrust Pokémon. Hariyama is the evolved form of Makuhita. When tensing its body, its muscles become hard as stone.

Hariyama is based on a sumo wrestler, which is probably why it’s so fat, haha. Its face is rather flat, and I wonder if there’s a mouth down there. I had a Hariyama on my Emerald team, and it was pretty useful both offensively and defensively (with its massive amount of HP).

Stat-wise, it has high HP, the highest of all Fighting types. It also has good Attack, but poor Speed. Although my Hariyama had Fake Out, which was helpful. One of its abilities is Guts, which raises Attack when statused, so it’s quite helpful, especially because it doesn’t take the Attack cut from a Burn. Like many Fighting type Pokemon, Hariyama (and its pre-evolution) has a couple of signature moves, Arm Thrust (though in Gen V Pignite and Emboar can also learn it) and Smelling Salt (though others can learn it be breeding).

Gastly, the Gas Pokémon. Although it can sneak in anywhere with its gaseous body, it can also be blown away by wind.

Rampardos, the Head Butt Pokémon and the evolved form of Cranidos. Its Headbutt attack is so powerful that it can pulverize even the sturdiest of objects with one hit.

Rampardos’ claim to fame is that it has the highest Attack of non-legendary Pokemon, second only to Attack-form Deoxys. It’s also the only pure Rock type fully evolved Fossil Pokemon. Despite its Pokedex entry saying stuff having a hard head and using it to hit things, it can’t learn Skull Bash, or have the ability Rock Head (it gets Mold Breaker instead).

In the anime, Roark’s Cranidos evolved into a Rampardos and fought with Ash. It has Flamethrower as ones of its moves, despite it not having great Sp Attack, though I guess in the anime, stats aren’t as important (or even seem to matter).

Stat-wise, aside from its very high Attack, it doesn’t have high enough Speed to make it a sweeper. Its defenses also aren’t that great, making Rampardos harder to hit back, but if it does hit back, it’s sure to do some good amount of damage.

Claydol, the Clay Doll Pokémon. Claydol is the evolved form of Baltoy. These ancient Pokémon are said to come alive when a mysterious light enstilled life into clay creatures created in ancient times. Claydol can fly and are able to fire beams from both arms.

Claydol is kinda creepy, maybe it’s all those eyes lined up or something. Or the fact that it says “Clay-doll” in a really slow deep voice XD Or maybe it just looks like a weird fat doll. Claydol’s type of Ground/Psychic is unique to its family. Its ability is Levitate (probably because its Pokedex entry says it can fly?), even though it’s not weak to Ground.

Stat-wise, it has good Defenses, but mediocre offenses and Speed, so it’s more suited to being a support/defense Pokemon, especially since it can learn Cosmic Power, which raises both Defense and Sp Defense. I find it funny that it learns Self-Destruct and Explosion by level-up.

It is said to live in a gap in the spatial dimension parallel to ours. It appears in mythology.

Palkia is the promotional Pokemon of Pokemon Pearl, appearing on the boxart, and being exclusive to it (until Platinum anyway). It’s the ruler of Space while Dialga is the ruler of Time. Its type of Water/Dragon isn’t unique, since Kingdra already had this type combination. It’s a pretty good type combination though, only weak to Dragon. I think its fins are supposed to alude to the water reference, and the fact that Pearls come from the ocean, I guess? But other than that, I don’t really see Palkia as a Water type.

In the anime, Palkia played a big role in the 10th movie, Rise of Darkrai, where it fought with Dialga due to a misunderstanding (they were never supposed to meet, but somehow, they did meet). Whereas Dialga just had the standard roar, Palkia’s roar is pretty unique, and very hard for me to describe. You’d have to hear it for yourself (<–Youtube link).

Stat-wise, Palkia has very high Sp Attack, at 150, it's the highest of all Dragon and Water type Pokemon. It's good that it has good Sp Attack, because its signature move, Spatial Rend, is special. It can also learn other useful special moves like Hydro Pump and Earth Power by level-up. Though its Attack, at 120 base power, is far from bad, and it learns Aqua Tail by level-up (twice, for some reason).

Dugtrio. Formed when three Diglett combine. This Pokémon is able to tunnel deep beneath the earth’s surface.

Dugtrio is another mystery of the Pokemon universe. When a Diglett is ready to evolve, do they just find 2 other Digletts and form a Dugtrio? Are the Digletts connected underground? Are they able to go off on their own? What if the 3 Digletts disagree? Gen I liked doing the trio thing I suppose (like Magneton and Dodrio).

In Mystery Dungeon, one of the NPCs is a Diglett, and its father is a Dugtrio. When the father speaks, it always says “we”. So does that mean this Diglett has multiple fathers? Is the mother also a Dugtrio? (that would make things even more awkward). Also, if you talk to the father Dugtrio at one point in the game, it talks about swimming in the ocean. Even your character thinks to itself “how does it do that”?

In the anime, Diglett has a very cute voice, saying “Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig”, and Dugtrio follows up by saying “Trio trio trio” in a pretty deep voice.

Stat-wise, it’s quite fast, despite not having feet and presumably has to move the earth when it moves (in the anime, it moves by bobbing up and down, like it’s running underground). It has good Attack as well, though its defense isn’t great. Its ability Arena Trap is quite annoying if you’re stuck fighting it with a disadvantageous Pokemon, or if you’re locked into a not very effective move/Electric move with a choice item.

Bellossom, the Flower Pokémon. When these Pokémon move, their delicate petals rub together, creating a pleasant sound. They are also known for their unique acrobatic dancing abilities.

Bellossom is one of Oddish’s final forms, evolving from Gloom with a Sun Stone, a new item in Gen II. It lost the Poison type when exposed to the sun. It’s apparently the smallest Pokemon that evolved twice. It’s based on a dancing flower, and is rather cute. Even though it looks rather feminine, it’s 50% male. In the anime, Bellossoms are seen dancing while chanting “Bella, bella, bell-awesome”.

Stat-wise, Bellossom has good Sp Defense and decent Sp Attack, but low Speed. It cannot learn Solar Beam by level-up in Gen IV and V despite being associated with the sun, though it can learn by TM.

Its electric-like body can enter some kinds of machines and take control in order to make mischief.

Heat Rotom got its type changed to Electric/Fire in Gen V, making it the only Pokemon with such a type combination. It’s actually a pretty good type combination, especially because Rotom has Levitate to counter its otherwise 4x weakness to Ground, making it only weak to Water and Rock. And because it’s part Electric, it can counter Water types.

Heat Rotom is based on a microwave oven. Its aura-hands look like oven mitts. Its special Form Change move is Overheat, which is good for like one or two uses. Though with Gen V’s new Electric move of Volt Switch, it can switch out and reset its Sp Attack decreases.

Stat-wise, it has good Sp Attack, and pretty good Defenses. With Heat Rotom’s typing, it can make a pretty good defensive or support Pokemon as well as an offensive one. Rotom can learn both Light Screen and Reflect, making it a good team supporter. I had a Heat Rotom that I used in single battle subway, as Light Screen/Reflect support for Shell-Smashing Cloyster. The combination was pretty effective.

Keldeo, the My Little Pony Pokemon. I mean look at it, it can easily be a MLP character.

Anyway, I made Keldeo today, to celebrate the fact that Keldeo has been officially announced in CoroCoro magazine (even though the Internets already knew about it when the game first came out from the game data)

Keldeo is the second 5th gen event legendary (after Victini). It’ll be the star of the next Pokemon movie, titled “Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman – Keldeo”. No event details yet, but will likely be a wi-fi event.

Keldeo is only the second Water/Fighting type, which is a shame ’cause Water/Fighting is a pretty decent type combination. Though design-wise, I don’t really see the Fighting or Water inspiration, other than the blue mane and tail representing Water, I guess. Despite being based on a unicorn, which I like, I don’t really like Keldeo’s design. It’s the 4th Musketeer, though while the other three (Terrakion, Cobalion, and Virizion) look regal and proud, to me, Keldeo looks rather silly and “cute”, maybe it’s meant to be a child, or something (it is the Colt Pokemon). I still can’t get over how weird its nose/snout looks, it looks like a hippo nose X.x

Stat-wise, it actually has the lowest base stat total of event legendaries; they’re usually at 600, while Keldeo only has 580. It has good Sp Attack (the highest of all Fighting types) and Speed. Its Attack is decent, but not great. A lot of moves it can learn by level-up are physical though (especially Fighting moves), but it does learn Swords Dance by level-up to boost its Attack. It has a Signature Move, Secret Sword (not to be confused with Sacred Sword, which is learned by all the musketeers), that it only gets it from the event (though I imagine by event is the only legit way to get a Keldeo anyway).
