They attach themselves to cave ceilings, firing steel spikes at targets passing beneath them.
– Pokemon White Pokedex
Ferrothorn is the Thorn Pod Pokemon. It looks rather unhappy and very unapproachable because of its thorns. Its typing of Grass/Steel is unique to its family. It’s not as good at Bug/Steel, since it’s still weak to fighting, but it still resists many types. The only downside is its 4x weakness to Fire.
In Pokemon Black/White, Ferrothorn is one of the few Pokemon you don’t actually see in the game (ie it’s not in the wild, and no trainer has one).
As strange-looking as it is though, Ferrothorn makes a really good Defensive wall, due to its typing, and its ability Iron Barbs, which if a Pokemon makes contact, it will lose 1/8th of its HP. This ability, if you have it hold a Rocky Helmet, makes any Pokemon that makes contact with it lose 1/4 of its HP.
My Ferrothorn is named “Iron Pod”. It has Curse, Gyro Ball, Stealth Rock, and Power Whip. Curse and Gyro Ball make a good combination, since Gyro Ball increases power the slower you are. Stealth Rock has proven useful against Marshal of the elite 4, since his Sawk has Sturdy. Though in the Battle Subway, since it’s 3-on-3, I kind of want to replace it with a healing move, like Rest.
