Lotad, the Water Weed Pokémon. Lotad inhabit peaceful wetlands, like lakes and ponds.
– Ash’s Pokedex
Lotad and its evolution have a unique type combination, Water/Grass. It’s nice since Grass covers Water’s two weaknesses, and Water covers Grass’s two weaknesses. Despite it being part Grass though, it doesn’t learn that many Grass moves by level-up (only Absorb, Mega Drain, and Energy Ball, with Energy Ball only learned by Lotad and not Lombre or Ludicolo), and moves like Razor Leaf, Leech Seed, and Giga Drain have to be bred.
The lily pad on its head makes me wonder if it’s top-heavy. It looks somewhat unhappy under there.
I had a Lotad briefly in Emerald, but dropped it from my team since I picked the Water starter. I’m breeding Lotad again though, because I want one on my Rain team. Both of its abilities, Swift Swim (doubles speed in rain) and Rain Dish (restores HP in rain) are useful. I went with Swift Swim.
Stat-wise, it has the most of Sp Def, but good Sp Attack as well.
