#149 Dragonite

——

Dragonite, the Dragon Pokémon. This extremely rare and highly intelligent type is able to fly faster than any known Pokémon.
– Ash’s Pokedex

Dragonite is the original fully evolved Dragon type, and the only Dragon/Flying type until Gen III. Dragonite doesn’t really look like its relatives Dratini and Dragonair. Aside from the sudden colour change, Dratini and Dragonair are based on Eastern dragons, while Dragonite is based on Western dragons.

At base stat of 600, it’s the strongest non-legendary in Gen I. In Gen V, Dragonite gets the ability Multiscale, which makes it take less damage when it’s at full HP, making it even better competitively. Though its Speed is slower than a lot of other Dragon types, It has decent defenses. It also has very good Attack, and pretty good Sp Attack as well.

In the games, the most famous Dragonite probably belongs to Lance. In fact, Lance has multiple Dragonites, 3 in the first battle in Gold/Silver when he’s the league champion.

  1. I really like this wallpaper in particular, since Dragonite seems so friendly waving hello at you. ^_^

I still remember Lance’s below-Level 55 Dragonites when you face him for the first time at the Elite Four. Cheating for the win (or is it for the lose)?

    1. thanks 🙂

lol yeah, Gym leaders often have lower-level than possible Pokemon, guess they don’t want to overwhelm you with the levels, but still fight with the Pokemon. Maybe they feed their Pokemon steroids so they evolve sooner? 😄 I don’t know why Lance needs 3 Dragonites though. Sure there’s a shortage of Dragon types in Gen II, but he doesn’t have to use all Dragon types 😄

I find it funny how you can find wild level 7 Pidgeottos (don’t remember where though)
