Chandelure, the Luring Pokémon and the evolved form of Lampent. Chandelure uses its dancing flames to hypnotize opponents.
– Ash’s Pokedex
Chandelure’s Pokemon White Pokedex entry is pretty sinister (as are many Ghost type Pokemon Pokedex entries), “Being consumed in Chandelure’s flame burns up the spirit, leaving the body behind.” I hope I don’t get burned by a Chandelure.
Chandelure’s typing of Ghost/Fire is unique to its family. It’s.. not too great, since Fire and Ghost don’t really account for each other’s weaknesses, though Ghost does give it 2 immunities. And like many Pokemon, despite the fact that it’s floating, it doesn’t have the Levitate ability. It can have Flash Fire or Flame Body, both are useful in their own ways I suppose. In the Dreamworld, Chandelure has the ability previously exclusive to the Wobbuffet family, Shadow Tag. This will make Chandelure an annoying opponent for sure.
In the anime, one of the subway bosses had a Chandelure. It’s smaller than I expected. In the games, Shauntal the Ghost Elite 4 member has a Chandelure, and it’s kinda like her signature Pokemon. I met a pretty awesome Shauntal cosplayer at Anime North last year, and she had made an awesome Chandelure to go with her costume.
Stat-wise, Chandelure actually has the highest Sp Attack of all non-legendary Pokemon, beating out Alakazam and Porygon-Z who previously held the title. It also has the highest Sp Attack of Ghost types. Being a stone evolution Pokemon, it doesn’t learn many moves by level-up. But it can learn some good STAB special moves by TM or previous evolution. So it can pack quite a punch. However, its Speed is mediocre, and its Defenses and typing leave it kind of vulnerable. But if it can hit, it can hit hard.
