The shell on its back is chemically unstable and explodes violently if struck. The hole in its stomach is its weak point.
– Pokémon Sun Pokédex
Turtonator has a silly name, it sounds like a robot or a sensational product or something; like “The Turtonator 3000”. It always goes into battle with its shell facing its opponent, and turning its head to look over its shoulder. It looks silly, but according to its Pokedex entry, its stomach is its weak point, so I guess it doesn’t want to show it to its opponent.
It’s exclusive to Sun/Ultra Sun, and is the counterpart to Drampa (even though these Pokemon are found in different locations). It’s typing is Fire/Dragon, I’m not sure where the Dragon inspiration comes from, since it just looks like a turtle to me (Charizard, who looks more like a Dragon, isn’t Dragon type).
In the anime, Kiawe has a Turtonator. Everyone else has small, Pikachu-sized Pokemon, and then there’s Turtonator. One of the show’s gags is new Pokemon accidentally touching Turtonator’s spikes, setting off Shell Trap.
Stat-wise, it has very high Defense, the highest defense of all Dragon Pokemon, in fact. It has good Sp Attack as well, but being a turtle, is very slow. It has a signature move, Shell Trap, which is a 150 base power Special Fire move; it has decrease priority, and will only work if the user has been hit by a physical attack on the turn it’s being used.
